Buying or hiring an instrument
As an alternative to buying, instruments can be hired from reputable dealers. In some cases this can be useful for beginners so there is not a large upfront financial commitment until some progress has been established. See some guidance below.
Piano & Keyboard
An acoustic piano will provide the best learning experience. However most students start out by learning to play on a keyboard or digital piano. The most reputable keyboards brands are Yamaha and Roland and can be purchased from most good music instrument retailers. Students should look to buy a keyboard with 88 weighted keys, as this will most resemble the touch and playability of a real piano. At a minimum, 61 keys will suffice for most songs (incl. ABRSM Grades 1-4) and practise.
Keyboards are portable and can be played with headphones, making them highly convenient for practice.
We recommend to regularly tune your acoustic piano and can make recommendations upon request.
String, Brass, Percussion
We associate with London's finest music instrument dealers and can provide a list of outlets upon request.
